BOLD, EMPATHETIC, AND EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP
John’s Plan for Boston
As Boston transitions from our response to the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis and into our long term recovery efforts, we have the opportunity and obligation to chart a new course. We must make sure that Boston’s residents, institutions, businesses and non-profit organizations recover in a way that restores our strengths, addresses our weaknesses, and adjusts to our new reality. We must prioritize public health in new and powerful ways. We must strive for prosperity with justice.
John Barros is the leader we need right now. Throughout his career as a community organizer, School Committee member, innovation industry professional, small business owner, and City leader, he has led with courage and empathy. As a son, husband, father and neighbor, he believes above all in the importance of family and community.
John has a long track record of enacting positive change by creating jobs, helping small business owners, building affordable housing, and expanding economic opportunities for women, people of color, immigrants, and working people of all backgrounds. He can bring the city together and achieve our most important goals: from a strong recovery from COVID, to powerful investments in public education, affordable homes, and racial justice.
John knows that it’s not enough to pursue these goals individually; we must focus on the ways these issues are interconnected, too. Hunger is related to the achievement gap. Access to childcare impacts the lifetime earnings of women. Access to green space can improve peoples’ physical and mental health.
John has a plan to tackle our biggest challenges in a holistic and forward-thinking way; and with the values of equity, justice, and sustainability embedded into everything we do. This is how we will become a stronger community where people are empowered to thrive at every stage of life, and in every way that they interact with the city around them.
Running the City is a big job, and it’s a team effort. John knows what it takes to bring people together to solve big problems. He has the skills and experience we need right now. He’s ready to meet this moment.
